Cancer - Critical Illness Insurance

Suffering from cancer can be catastrophic both emotionally and physically. It is where cells in your body grow or change in a way that it is not controlled.

There are many different types of cancer each different to one another as they it can occur in many different parts of the body. Some of the main types for example are bladder, kidney, bowel or liver cancer, bone cancer, brain tumours, breast cancer, leukaemia, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, stomach cancer, testicular cancer and thyroid cancer. There are unfortunately a couple of hundred different types of which will all respond differently to the different types of treatment that is available for anyone suffering such as disease. If for example you feel a lump on you body where cells have grown in a different way and a good example is a lump in your breast. If a lump has increased in size then you would need to consult your doctor however there are two outcomes of such a lump as it can either be benign which means it is non cancerous or it is malignant which means that it is a formation of cancerous cells. A benign lump means that it will not travel to other areas of your body where malignant cancer could then end up in your blood stream which then could carry the cancerous to a number of other places in your body which would then be very difficult to control, this is called secondary cancer.

If you have any doubt at all about a lump or growth even a mole on your skin that has changed in colour or size maybe, you should make an appointment as soon as possible to see your doctor because the earlier any form of cancer is detected the earlier treatment can begin and therefore there is a higher chance of being in remission.

There are many options which we can do ourselves to reduce the risk of being diagnosed with any type of cancer, such as smoking. Smoking is one of the main causes of cancer within the UK, yet there are still a large proportion of people who still smoke. Even though smoking is an addiction there are many support groups that try to help people stop. Another factor that can lead to an increase risk of cancer is the amount of time in the sun, as a lot people do not wear the correct level of protection when on holiday for example. Obviously there are thousands of people who do both of the above and will not suffer from cancer however they are contributing factors and therefore should be considered.

There are also some types of cancer that are hereditary which means that if certain cancers have followed down through the generations then for those people who have family history of breast cancer then they should undergo regular checks so that if it does occur it has been caught as soon as possible so they have the best possible chance of surviving.
