Fortis Life UK was originally founded in only 1990, and as it has had such a massive success rate it is hard to believe that it has only been running for what seems such a relatively small amount of time. Originally Fortis was created because there was a merger between two companies AMEV and VSB a Dutch insurer. Within the United Kingdom Fortis UK has its own in house medical emergency centre, this is called Assistance International. Fortis has not just been an insurance company offering policies in the protection world; it was once dealing with banking issues and investment management.

In 2007 Fortis was recognised as being the largest business across the world when it came to revenue. In 2008 the company was sold in parts in different countries and now only has the insurance side of it left. Typically places such as the Netherlands, Brussels, Utrecht and Belgium are referred to as Fortis's base and the main area of its organisation. Fortis used to be connected with merchant banking, commercial banking and retail banking. As this company has always been a productive and effective one since it was founded it acquired a retail bank in Poland along with approximately 89.2% of their shares. This was through the fifth largest bank in Turkey called Disbank. This could obviously have only added to the company's capital and financial gain.

With Fortis being so popular and an ever growing success it became one of the biggest names on the financial market. It sponsors the Turkish Football Club along with the Luxembourg National Division. Although this is such a successful company in dominating most of the financial industry, currently they have decided to give most of its time to its personal assurance side.
